Rural Outreach Support Service

RAPID’s Rural Outreach Support Service is funded by Derry City Council and aims to provide an outreach service to local community groups in the rural wards of the Derry City Council area which will support, enhance and develop the services and roles of those already active in the development of this area. A key provision of this service is assisting groups in the successful completion of funding applications and the delivery of projects, two things which will place community groups in a better position to play a leading role in shaping the development of rural communities and the rural economy.

The provision of this Outreach Support Service will help to achieve the sustainable development of rural community groups through adopting a networking approach. Establishing a successful rural network will provide a more effective and integrated approach to rural development by enabling community groups to share experiences.

RAPID hopes that this networking service will not only improve the effectiveness of local community groups but will also help to ensure that the work carried out at RAPID is a carefully tailored response to issues which are of major relevance to the communities in the rural wards of the Derry City Council area.

RAPID also facilitates a rural community forum, which meets on a bi-monthly basis, the aim of which is to facilitate a networking and shared approach to rural development throughout the rural Derry City Council area. The Forum provides a space were groups can come to share information on current opportunities and gain advice from various organisations operating throughout the area. With an increased requirement for networking, collaboration and a joint working approach the forum provides the following benefits to the rural area:

  • It provides groups with a forum to network and to discuss ideas and current issues affecting the rural area.
  • It offers a platform to share problems with other groups throughout the rural area with the potential of finding a solution through collective thinking.
  • It provides groups with the opportunity to find out about funding and talk through the application process
